Tarmin Joins the Object Storage Alliance

As founding member

Tarmin Inc. announced that is has joined the Object Storage Alliance as a founding member.

The Object Storage Alliance is a non-profit storage industry organization dedicated to promoting advanced technologies that allow organizations to drive informed decisions, glean insights and maximize the business value of information.

80% of enterprise data is unstructured, and in 2013 Gartner predicted that enterprise data growth would exceed 800% by 2018. With the growth of unstructured data, such as multimedia files, presentations and email messages, IT administrators need better ways to manage, index, access and secure the data. The alliance was formed to assist in offering best practices and education on technologies that enable informed decisions, insight and information innovation.

The trends in unstructured data are challenging organizations to find new, innovative approaches to storing and accessing data, and many of the best solutions in the market incorporate object storage technologies,” said Shahbaz Ali, Tarmin president and CEO. “At Tarmin, we take a data centric approach that breaks down the barriers inherent in traditional storage solutions and unites application, information and storage tiers into a single integrated architecture.

Tarmin’s GridBank Data Management Platform allows organizations to meet the performance and scalability needs required to manage massive unstructured data growth, while reducing corporate risk through an information governance framework, and deliver business value from metadata delivering accelerated search, e-Discovery and analytics integration.

Object storage is suitable for online and cloud environments, as object storage platforms were designed to address the scalability challenges of NAS and file server systems. Users access object storage through applications that typically use a HTTP REST API (an internet protocol, optimized for online applications).

GridBank supports several REST APIs, including its own API implementation, as well as S3, CDMI and OpenStack compatible APIs for cloud provisioning and integration with existing applications. GridBank also enables data access using standard network file protocols such as SMB (CIFS), NFS, as well as web access using HTTPS and FTP. This multiple access and protocol support for scalable file sharing, as well as cloud-based access, meets enterprise network user needs and the needs of the growing mobile workforce, facilitating the journey to the cloud and adding value and flexibility for a geographically dispersed organization.

We are pleased to have Tarmin as a founding member of the Object Storage Alliance,” said Ben Woo, MD, Neuralytix, Inc., an IT market research firm. “The Alliance members look forward to working together to educate the market on the benefits of object storage technologies and how best to use these technologies and solutions to optimize the value inherent in organizations’ massive volumes of stored data.
